$60 PC – Raspberry Pi
The Raspberry Pi is a $60 mini PC. it uses a Linux-based operating system, so no Microsoft Windows, and plugs into your Television set for its monitor. It features two USB ports for a keyboard and mouse and has a surprisingly powerful video processing capability, being able to run a game like Quake 3 at a respectable 40 Frames Per Second. Granted, Quake 3 is quite old now but then again this is a $60 mini PC.
The specifications are:
- 700 MHz CPU
- 256 MB Ram
- VideoCore IV GPU
- 2x USB ports
- 10/100 Ethernet
Before buying it you may wish to note that you need an SD Card to use as storage and you may have to buy a power cable separately. The main idea behind this is that if you have children and wish for them to learn about the insides of computers, programming, software development and just about computers in general this is a great starting place because if they break it then it is no big loss.
